The Science and Mathematics Teacher Imperative (SMTI), begun by the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU), is a commitment by 121 public research universities to increase the quantity, quality and diversity of the science and mathematics teacher they prepare. The SMTI 2010 National Conference (June 9-11) provides faculty from science and mathematics disciplines and Colleges of Education, administrators, and K-12 educators an opportunity to share successful programs or strategies on their campuses and to find solutions to common problems.  It is an opportunity to create a community that crosses traditional boundaries to make science and mathematics teaching and teacher preparation an integral part of the university-wide mission.
